October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
With Survivors, Always 💜
Survivors of abuse are often overlooked, not believed, and shamed for speaking up. Especially now, under the current administration, human rights violations are amping up and we must not become numb and normalize this type of violence. It is more important than ever to understand the impact and depravity of gender based violence.
It slowly seeps into every fiber of ones being, making them question who they are, what they believe in, and maybe most importantly-- their self worth.
Being a survivor of domestic violence is a heavy weight to carry day in and day out, sometimes it feels like you're suffocating slowly, sometimes you feel empowered for surviving such a traumatic time.
This candle is an artistic representation of resilience, pain, strength and the fight for survival. To me, these are things that encapsulate what it means to be a survivor of abuse. We light this candle for the ones that fell victim to such horrific abuse, their loved ones, and the ones that carry that pain of being a survivor within them day in and day out.
We are survivors, we stand strong, even in the shadows of darkness.
